Went for a drive today in my newly acquired 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 up to mam tor car park in the peak District to test out the TR in a safe location. And while it seemed ok, the moment I lost any momentum I lost all traction. I did what everyone said and put on the accelerator but I just ended up at 4000 revs and a car going nowhere sliping and sliding. I have seen videos of them doing amazing in snow so unsure if I have a problem or not. The car has a set of 4 brand new perrelli scorpion Verde all season tires so it's not old warn tyres. Tried in general mode, and GGS both with and without DSC and it made no difference, the wheels slip and the car doesn't move. It's going into the garage on the 3rd march for timing belt and parking break, is this something I should mention? Never driven off road before, however I'm sure it would've been better than that.

I did just the same thing (mam tor carpark) no problems, hardly slipped a wheel. 2008 freelander2. If I were you I should take a trip over to Hallam’s. I use Michelin cross climates but cant see tiers making that much difference.

Tyres are often overlooked on 4X4s I remmeber a chap who bought a Hilux and complained to all and sundry about how terrible it was in the snow and mud.

It wasnt until we pointed his **** tyres and replaced them with a Vredstein Quatrac pro that his incessant moaning ceased.

what tyres you got?

It's booked into Hallams on the 3rd. That's annoying, did you manage to get up to the 3rd teir of the car park, that's where I got stuck, the back end was sliding on the other bits too.

When we last had decent snow I was very impressed with my fl1. Just road tyres but it handled snow and ice covered roads no problem. I was using it on hilly country roads that no one else had used.

I just put 4 new Scorpion Verde all season tyres on (Thursday). I thought I put that in the original post though, my bad if not.

In all you guys opinion what is the most reliable, economical Freelander and the most pleasure to drive?
I am looking for one for my son :)

Too high pressure will affect grip. In really snowy conditions you could half the normal pressure but when on Tarmac at normal speeds the tyre pressures should be as per manufacturers recommendations.

They're good in snow, really good.
If it's not driving in snow and spinning tyres, then there's something wrong with it.
What wheels are spinning?
If it's just the front, then there's a problem with the PTU splines, or the Haldex.

Have you driven in snow before?

Thank you Henry,
would you say that they are ok for motorway use as well?
Thanks for the info ;)
Oh yes they're fantastic cars to drive long distance, just a bit to tight for my frame..

I prefer auto to manual just for conveniance, and the Manual likes it's clutches, a well maintained auto should do well.

I've only ever driven a 2 wheel drive fiesta before. Never driven a 4x4 or off road at all before. I've got the fiesta in a fair few spots before in the snow, and never had any issues unless mucking about in a carpark.

There's something wrong with it.
Which wheels are spinning?
