Freelander ABS TC hill decent lights on

Hi

I have a Freelander 1999 which has been great for last few years but now has the ABS TC And hill decent warning lights On. Can anyone help i have no hand book.

Often it's the Brake Light Switch.

do you have hill decent control? (Yellow switch on gear stick?)

If you do and you think ABS still working then try engaging first with hill decent engaged - you should have a steady green light.

Drive off and get some speed up in first - take foot off gas - ABS kicks in to slow you down. If alls well the warning lights will go out! Don't ask why it works on my TD4.

If you have no HDC then I would suggest there is def a fault in the system somewhere!

Thanks for the advise. I have got the HDC yellow switch but have not got HDC green light when i engage first.

you need to do a search on "3 amigoes". brake light switch on brake pedal is a common culprit, and there are numerous threads on this forum about it. think the brake light switch is sub £20, so maybe worth a try first.

had this prob last week was brake light switch remove switch and press switch until you hear a click refit and checkout

Could also be a split ABS sensor ring on one of the drive shafts. Had this last year. It was one on the front which snapped. Have a look underneath at the outer edge of the shaft and through a small hole you will see a perforated metal ring. If this spins independently of the shaft or is loose in any way it's goosed. Whole shaft needs replaced if it is. Breaker's £40-£50, dealer £200ish!

Thanks for all the advise. If i remember the ABS TC HDC light came on after braking sparply and the ABS kicked in so i'll have a look at the Brake light switch. If not that i'll work my way through the list you've all given me.

I have recently had this problem on my 04 freelander and as the MOT was due decided to fix it once and hopefully for all, I found a thread on another forum from a landrover mechanic that said the fault was due to to a defective brake pedal switch, I had my doubts about this as my brake lights worked just fine, so I removed the switch and inspected it and found that it has 3 contacts one of which I believe sends a signal to a module associated with the ABS and in return to the Hill descent.

I bought a new switch off ebay for a cost including postage of £15, the fitting is easy as the switch simply twists out of its mounting (located under the dash above the brake pedal) once the cable plug is removed.

The new switch comes with a extra long plunger that needs to be left as long as possible and fitted with the brake pedal fully depressed (help needed) once fitted the problem on my vehicle disapeared at once and has not returned (yet lol).

Regards to all. I know it's been a long time but I wanted to thank everyone, especially rustymark. I had a problem. Lamp for abs, tc, and the angle of vehicle. I just found a hill, put it in first gear, switch on the yellow button and without gas and the clutch is dropped to the bottom of the hill. When the car was straight, I turned off the yellow button, icon green car blinked two or three times, then I had no more problems.

Just tried rustymarks tip of driving off with hill decent on after all three lights came on my 2003 td4. Worked a treat. Top marks
