Freelander '99 2.0 Tdi "red" engine control light...

heres another one...
"RED" engine management light comes on and then goes off at will - does not stay on, one day its off, the next day it comes on at certain speeds.
as soon as i come off the gas pedal it goes off again?!!
Do the breather pipes need a good clean out or is this something more serious??!!
Any ideas??

Check your exhaust,especially the flexi joint in the downpipe.Also check condition of your air filter.
Red light came on in mine when the air filter got clogged,took it out and the light went off.I later found a hole in the flexi joint.Got that fixed and it never happened again.
