Hello guys, so found some great photos on this forum from years ago with folk picking up some right barging for less than £100.

Well inflation can be a b*tch. As too is supply and demand.

I have a 2005 Freelander TD4. What I want I want is a black 60mm A frame bull bar. Although I would settle on a chrome one (with the idea of spray painting it myself later).

Anyone know of any sellers or websites with a good one available? I'm in the Leeds area.

Alas, been on fleabay and found some for £1000 (on her bike lads) and others more £200 but not sure they would fit right.

Cheers for the input

I got my mangy steel one off eBay about a year ago and then had it powder coated black. Better than new afterwards. All in all less than £100. Contact breakers directly if you see them stripping a Freelander with what you want on it in the pics. Often they don't list all the parts available except a wheel nut.

Metal bull bars are now illegal to retrofit to a vehicle after about 2000 iirc, with hefty fines and prohibition orders being handed out on a regular basis. The plastic "soft" bars are now all you can legally fit.

Edit. It appears to be from 2007 that some bars are technically illegal. So the Freelander 1 should be ok.

The document does state that the bull bars should be "E" approved. I think you'll find that most rigid metal bars are not E marked these days. However there's obviously the typical confusion over this matter. There's a piece of EU legislation on the subject.

I can only go on what other fellow bull bar wearing 4x4 users have said in my area. I know of 2 cases recently where prohibition orders have been placed on the vehicles for having a modification that could lead to serious injury. The modification in both cases was referring to metal bull bars. Maybe the officers were anti bull bar or they couldn't find any E marks?

I personally don't think they are necessary unless lots of off road bush bashing is carried out. I definitely wouldn't want the serious injury of a pedestrian on my conscience.

So my understanding is that as of 2007 onwards it is illegal to fit metal bull bars. Ur that cars with them already on are exempt...unless someone really takes a disliking to you and go out their way for court orders and such. But I assume that's where owning a Land Rover in yorkshire has its perks against City driving in the middle of London.

I'm just assuming it legal to buy. And should my car be from 2005 it's resonable to assume they were fitted at birth.

I'm still interested. Worst case I'd just have them removed upon request.
