HELP!
I am changing my freelander clutch and have followed various insructions for doing this (including those on RAVE CD). I am now positive I have everything disconnected that needs disonnecting but for the life of me I cannot seperate the gearbox from the engine.

The LHS driveshaft is out

The clutch entry into the (believed to be IRD box) is free

The LHS gearbox mount is free

All ancillary pipes moved out of the way for access

All (8) engine bolts out

I just cant seperate them and have tried lifting gearbox at one end to hopefuly gently force it open a little but no luck. I am frightented to hit it with a hamer as casing is brittle!

Please, in the name of father ted help me!

Cheers

Steve

We had the same problem doing an impreza one. We tried jacking the gearbox and nothing, so phoned the local garage, the lad in there went to school with me. He came straight over, jacked it up so the weight of the box was on the jack and whacked it with a nylon hammer! It split after 2 hits! We were on for about 2 hours and it didn't budge! He took about 2 mins.
