Has anyone fitted any new upgraded headlight Bulbs to their Freelander 2? I've got an 07 Freelander 2 with the standard lights and bulbs, I'm looking to fit something brighter possibly LED bulb upgrades or whatever is best, so open to suggestions that won't cost a fortune - thanks in advance.

LEDs can't be used in reflectors, as they don't control the beam correctly.

Fitting higher brightness bulbs is possible. I use Osram Night Breakers in my vehicles, as the light is quite a bit brighter than old standard halogen bulbs.

I fitted the same on my high beam, they are pretty good, the working life is supposed to be slightly less but worth it.
The Fl2 has pretty good headlights even as standard.

Yeah their not bad, just thinking of something for the winter darker months. I've heard a few guys mention the Night Breakers, might give them a go.

Night Breakers are the best value improvement, while remaining compliant.

The best conventional (although not legal) bulb upgrade was the 65 Watt Osram Rally (I can't remember the part number) H7 bulb. This used the halogen capsule from the H9 bulb, but it was fitted to the H7 lamp base. It produced 2100 lumens, as opposed to the 1650 lumens permitted by the registrations.
Sadly Osram don't make them any more, which is a shame as the light output was spectacular.

Don’t buy the Halfrauds version of super bright headlamps. In my experience they didn’t last more than a few months.
The current Osram Night Breakers are a good compromise, though not as bright as the non-compliant ones.
As mentioned, the headlamps on the FL2 are pretty good, but note that manufacturer claims of 150% brighter are based on the minimum legal requirement, so you might not notice much difference.

Those are made by Ring, under the Alite name. The Alite +150 have a life of around 150 hours at 13.2 Volts (the official test voltage). Most car electrical systems provide over 14 volts to the lights. This is good for light output, as it will climb above the maximum test specification, however it does so at the expense of life, which can drop markedly.

Night Breakers are a good compromise, giving about 150 hours at a nominal 14 Volts.

The 100 % or 150 % more light is in comparison to an average off the shelf bulb, which is approaching the end of its life (light output drops as the filament ages). So the vastly exaggerated claims should be taken with a pinch of salt. However fitting bulbs like Night Breakers or equivalent will provide more light than standard bulbs. I find that filament placement on the Osram are more accurate than others, which is vital if the increased light is to be any use.
