Had a recent problem which used to be very intermittant but got a lot worse in the recent cold (to freezing point) weather with our 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 2.2 diesel starting and stopping immediately. It would start then stop a couple of times then go crank - no start. Turn power off using the button, turn on again, more of the same. Eventually it would start to get more promising, with no no-start issues, just constant start and stop. Then it would suddenly just start and run fine; no issues, revved cleanly to over 4000. First thought was glowplugs with it being worse the colder it got and it being 13 year and 82000 miles old. So, did the glowplug change, no fun in 1 degree temperatures with so much to take offjust to get to the glowplugs. lost of cleaning and wrenching later, it was back together. Next morning no change, same start-stop issue! So then thoughts went to the sensors, which in hindsight would have been an easier thing to change. Changed the crank AND camshaft sensors (crank very easy, cam a bit more involved but not too hard) and, hey presto, no issues since, strikes up first press of the button every time. Bit of advice for anyone with these issues, go sensors first, got them from Famous Four for a good price, they're a quick and easy fix, only go glowplugs as a last resort as they are a pain to replace due to the issues in just getting to them. Hope this can be of help to anyone suffering what can be a bit of an issue.
