Hi. im new here and I would like some advise please I have just purchased a 60 Freelander 2 td4 auto with 90k miles. The car runs perfect at high speed (70 or over ) but at low speed around town or just setting of the cat seems to run quite lumpy as if something is being restricted and is pulling the car back like there is a missfire but if i put the footdown the kick down is very poor and then a black puff of smoke at the back and the car drive of.
Sorry i know im quite vague in my discription but there is no other way to explain it,any help would be much apreciated.
thanks.
PS,THE CAR HAD A SERVICE IN MAY BUT NOT SURE IF FUEL FILTER WAS DONE ALSO NO WARNING LIGHTS ON DASH.

Hi guys, thanks for the reply I just had the rac out and they plugged in comp and shows fault TURBO UNDER BOOST the chap said this could be anything but most likely to be egr valve is faulty .
Can anyone tell me is this an expensive repair and how much do egr valves cost.
Thanks once again in advance.

The egr valve is on the front left of the engine, behind a few pipes and can be removed and cleaned fairly easily.
But if your not used to this type of thing:
A: get in your car and give it a really good blast, 60mph in 4th(or 5th if you have 6 gears) for about 20 miles once the engine is up to temperature.
B: find a local garage that will clean it for you.
C: crash course in self learning and have a go yourself.

Strip and clean the EGR valve. It's a good idea to clean the inlet manifold too. This is important as the swirl flaps can clog up with black goo from the EGR. This has caused the swirl flaps to break free, causing all sorts of other issues.

is it possible to have a blanking plate fitted on a 2010 LR2 and would this cause any problems to the ecu and also would wynns egr cleaner be any good if i used it and gave the car a good run,as i only use the car around town so maybe a good run might clear the valve.
what do you guys think ?
thanks

Blanking the EGR on 2010 FL2 will show a fault unless you get the ECU altered or an ERG emulator is fitted. I've no idea where you'd get an EGR emulator though.

I thought on an FL2, if you put a blanking plate in between the exhaust inlet and egr, but left the egr in place, it would not generate a fault code as the car thinks it's still there and working?
Or am I mistaken:confused:

There will be a fault generated that will say something like "inlet temperature lower then expected during EGR opertion"
This may or may not put the MIL on. It does put the MIL on when the same mod is done to the D3, which follows the same protocol.
