hi, i have a landrover freelander 2.0exdi station wagon 1999 reg and it has just had a replacement cylinder head. re- conditioned supplied by myself and fitted by a local garage. i am having problems starting it,it started better when i got it back from the garage. the engine turns over for ages and attempts to start with loads of white smoke coming out of the exhaust, i have checked the glow plugs and can confirm that the first three form the timing belt end of the engine glow perfectly, the last one requires taking quit a bit of the engine components including the fuel injection pump out which i do not want to do. i have checked the last one with a muli meter as suggested in the haynes workshop manual and checked its resistance, this is the same as the three other plugs i know that work. i also have a plug that does not glow and known to be faulty which i have allso tested and this gives no reading, which would suggest to me that the fourth glow plug is working ok. when the engine finally starts it runs fine with no smoke and plenty of power. after initially starting the engine andrestaring throughout the day, it either fires straight away or turns over for quite a while. any info would be most gratefull as the car fell on me in june this year and i nearly died, i have had so many problems with it but dont want to part with it.please help!!!!!!
many thanks in advance

Hi,new to posting but this may help, check the coolant temp sensor, its situated to the left of No1 injector, top is coloured blue the resistance will vary with engine temp. Not sure of the ohms to expect though. This eventually sorted out my poor starting freelander, think it was only £8 or£9 on ebay part No ERR 2081
