Hi

Was hoping someone could maybe shed some light on my recent problem, please bear with me though as i'm not too technically minded.

I was driving when the car juddered to a halt. When i looked under the bonnet there was no water, there had been a leak from the big rubber pipe that goes from the radiator to the engine, (is that the intercooler pipe?).

So I managed cut the pipe off where it had cracked and pushed it back on and filled it up with water. There is no leak now but the engine mangement light is on and it has not much power going up hills or accelerations, also taking a while to get the revs up in the morning when started.

The glow plugs where replaced about a month ago and that pipe was taken off to get to them, I think that is how the crack came about.

Could it have gone into limp mode? I'm skint and can't really afford to put it into a land rover garage, but really need it working.

Sounds like you could have cooked the engine which in turn could have damaged anything even cracked the block.... good luck with it but will probably be expensive

You did allow engine to cool before adding more water didnt you:confused:
 
I let it cool down a bit, but after its started for a bit, it runs ok, except from going uphilss or heavy accelareing, after i fixed the hose I drove it 150 miles back home like this and im still using it like that now.

Assuming it's now holding water ok and there are no overheating issues you should start by having the fault codes read and interpreted then cleared (and the mil light).
Then see if a fault code returns, if so it will indicate where the remaining problem is.
Many small independent garages can do this you don't necessarily need a l/rover garage.
 
Is it generally running rough, mis-firing, any odd noises etc. Is there any cream in the coolant or around the oil filler cap? If the answer is no and its just guttless when the taps are opened, then you might be lucky and haven't damaged the engine. However, either the ECU has gone into a safe mode due to 'something wierd' happening, or one of the sensors has been damaged. Reacon your best bet is to visit an 'independent' and have it checked out. Also, when you filled it with water, I don't suppose you put some antifreeze in as well did you? Assuming you are UK based then that might be a good idea otherwise you'll have more than a lack of power to worry about.
