I have a fuel problem on freelander 1 diesil td4 on turning egnition on you can hear all pumps running but at back of engine you can hear it sucking air in any ideas where this be from I'm no machanic so any help be verybthankful

Could be one of the vacuum hoses or a split turbo pipe , try to find where it is by running your hand where you think it's coming from you should be able to feel the air against your hand

It's pretty normal to hear a hissing sound from the front RH side of the engine. This will be the fuel flowing through the HP pump and back to the tank.

But for some reason car won't run as if starved of fuel hence y I asked about fuel pipe somewhere at back of engine soon as u turn egnition on while rear pumps still pumping which is y I'm thinking fuel pipe with easy start runs for few minutes then cuts out again like no fuel

There's loads of threads about fuel and starting problem's , you could crack a injector pipe open turn the engine to see if fuels getting through then go from there

Do a leak back test on the injectors first, when was the fuel filter last changed, and the fuel pump checked for good flow no stuttering etc, if they seem ok then maybe look to changing the regulator O-rings on the HPFP. do some of the above and report back.
