All booked for Friday to change VCU and bearings. Just as an add on great service at Bell Engineering taking the 2 VCUs I have in part ex for the new one and also put me off buying the beatings from them as they only have the cheap ones in stock. Went to Island 4x4 in the end for the beatings for the GKN ones£50.00 a shot mind you but don't do big milage so should last a while Thanks again.

Another small issue... Wi ds teen wipers... When on intermittent they stop half way up the screen and then com e back down... The delay is dependent on the setting I.e short or long pause. Is there an easy fix or is it new wiper stalks...?

All looking good now. But don't know if I'm looking for problems that aren't there but the engine dies seem quite noisy first thing. Not sure if this is just normal diesel engine noise but seems like a Tapping sound. It does seem to go quieter after driving for a few miles. I did an oil change when I first had the car using Castrol Magnatec 10W40, is this the correct oil or is there something better to use or safe additive. Any thoughts would be appriciated.

Another question for you Midge 68 or anyone else for that matter. I've unfortunately snapped 2 bolts on the inlet manifold (then found a previous post from you Nodge about how to tighten ☹️). Any ideas how to remove the snapped bolts and what are the new bolts required. I was wondering if it would be easier to get a new manifold from a breakers yard instead?

Don't I know it! Cost me my transmission!

I don't think you'll get anyone saying "Yeh, she'll be right" (queue all the posts!) even if they are thinking it.

What I'm thinking is that you might be alright, but having got that particular T Shirt, I wouldn't do it.
And mine, Another IRD blown!

I have a spare inlet manifold which I think is complete and OK if a bit dirty. Happy to let it go for a tenner plus postage. PM me If your interested.
It is a TD4 inlet manifold your talking about?

Thanks Alibro. I've replied PM. I've ordered one of the stud /bolt extraction tools to remove the rest if the stud left behind. Have you used these tools and do you think it will work or is there another easier way?

Not always easily unfortunately. Post some pictures of the offending bolts and surrounding area, so we can take a look.

For reference, the bolts only need "nipping" up, as the sealing is done with O rings. I think the official torque figure is about 18Nm, so not tight at all really.

I did see a previous post from you, but a bit late. In fairness one bolt was already loose after being snapped and the other snapped when I was undoing it, so not my fault.... This time at least. Just wondering to stop any further damage would it survive with the bolts missing. Can't hear any air being sucked in.

Mine has had a missing nut since I've owned it, it's not really a problem.

Air could leak out, not be sucked in, as the manifold is under pressure when the engine is running. ;)

Hi thanks for all your help on my previous issues with my TD4. Just wondering if I could pick your brains again. Looks like the Aux belt has snapped and looks like a bigger job than I could handle. With belt snapped can a drive it a few miles to get to the garage or is it a tow truck job?

There will be no power steering, water pump or charge to battery.

Steering dangerously heavy without belt. Changing belt is not a hard job, covered on many a thread with a threading guide too!!
