Freelander 1 vs Freelander 2

Hello guys. I have two freelanders in my family. 2006 V6 (71.000mi) and 2005 TD4 (80.000mi). Before we had various Audi, BMW. Last 5 years we are using freelanders only. We like plastic inside (door trim, ceiling, panel) without any fabrics, because we have two kids and sometimes we are going on hikes. So, in our case, plastics means ease of cleaning. To be honest, now V6 at garage for last three months. Now we drive TD4 due to fuel economy.
...But each day i'm thinking about Freelander 2 or Range Rover Sport. Is it logic to think about swapping old good freelanders for these cars? Probably not. We like simplicity. And tomorrow i will think about FL2 or Sport again
Maybe somebody tried FL2 after FL?

If you think of the Freelander 1 as being a small landrover, then the Freelander 2 is essentially a small range rover,in that its more car like, more luxurious, but not as tolerant of mud and dirt in the inside because its all nice carpets and fabric everywhere a freelander 1 (3 door) has plastics. That being said, there is no reason to not get a freelander 2 with leather seats and additional mats for the muddy foot prints. If your kids are making the headlining of your car dirty they need more strict parenting. The Freelander 2 is more complex than a freelander 1, so if tehy do develop any faults, the repair bills are usually more expensive, however they doo seem to be pretty reliable.

And if you're used to repair and replacement costs on a FL1, the the repair costs on a RRS will make you wince!!

So I had a dalliance with a Range Rover Vogue. It's well documented in the RR forum here. I bought it off probably the most trustworthy guy there, and he had looked after it well, with everything he did meticulously posted in detailed threads. I had money to throw at it, and believe me, I did. I ended up wasting tens of thousands of pounds on it before the crank snapped on a French motorway.

In contrast, my 2001 Freelander has had a decent amount of work done to it over the years (only because I work from home, and it can sit idle for years at a time). All the work done cost nothing compared to the range rover, and its still going strong.

The Freelander might have an engine made of chocolate, with a head gasket that fails if you so much as think about it, but I wouldn't have anything else.

A Freelander 2 will do everything a Freelander 1 can, with more power and comfort. It's true they can be the spec of a range rover but without the cost of running one. And the doors dun't fall oft anorl.
