Evening peeps, has anyone ever had a Freelander 1 TD4 (BMW) remapped? If so, I'd be interested to hear what you thought of performance and economy, regards Andy

I'm running a Ron Box (Synergy) as I feel the factory MAF is too expensive. The RB allows the use of a cheaper MAF.
Mine is an auto, so can't take much more torque than a mild remap. This makes the remap an expensive option, which is another reason I went with the RB.

If it's an auto, then be aware that the gearbox has a maximum torque capacity of 300 Nm, and that's when it was new. Older and well travelled auto's will take less torque, as the clutch packs will be worn.

Thanks mate. Yeah mafless map on my 75. Do a lot of rolling road days and even the worst was 154 bhp when I had a **** poor fuel pump on its way out.
They can do maf maps, or as I plan on the new year dual maps on freelander so you can have a standard eco map and then switch to huge power higher fueling map for off road etc.

That's interesting Colin, all I'm looking for is better drivability, I wouldn't mind but it's had a really easy life, original elderly owner hardly drove it, I've owned it since. I took the prop off at 65000mls as I never go off road with it, and my kids call me Captain Slow. It just feels sh*t and clumsy, not enjoyable to drive, replaced the sensors, done the EGR bypass, just done the diesel pump rebuild. Loosing interest now and was thinking a remap might rekindle something.

Have you checked the turbo is kicking in properly? TD4's are no flying machines but are not slow and shouldn't feel clumsy. It might be worth checking it in with a good diesel mechanic to check it out before going down the route of remaps.

Would a diagnostic check confirm this? Or would it need to go on a rolling road?

I'd have thought a diagnostic check with a good quality checker would pick up on low boost or whatever. Have you tried disconnecting the MAF. Lots of folk have found faulty MAF sensor can make the car sluggish and temporarily disconnecting it is a quick way to check.
