Will need to remove the interior tailgate trim. With the window raised remove 4 screws holding bottom of trim to the tailgate, carefully release 7 trim clips around tailgate, the top of the trim is attached by 5 hooks so lift it upwards and outwards.
Remove plastic waterproof liner.
There are 3 nuts holding handle to the tailgate.
The lock barrel is held in by retaining pins that can be unclipped with pliers.
the reason superglue doesn't hold it is due to it's lack of strength. To glue them back together you need to do a 2 stage repair. First rough the surfaces with fine grade sandpaper until they are a nice matt finish. Then glue them with the superglue and allow to dry fully, would give it an hour somewhere warm.
Then go over the surface of the repairs with araldite, a nice thick coat extending well over the cracks and beyond to sound plastic.
The superglue provides a quick fix whereby the bits are held together, then the araldite which takes longer to dry will provide the strength.
good luck, but this really does work. I backed into a post in mine and broke the tailgate handle. swallowed my pride and spent 10 mins picking up all the bits, and then took it home and fixed it like this. That was 3 years ago and no problems yet.
if you do a search, I did a rather spiffing write up on how to repair the handle when you back into a post. does involve having to stop and pick up all the pieces first though.
Cant find it . I searched the freelander section and your threads . Never mind .
My handle is proper broken and a new one is 163+phat from local stealers .Cheapest I found online was £80 odd+ from Duckworths .
I intend cutting 3mm sheet aluminium (or whatever I can find)to the shape of the inside of the handle and it will sit at least a few mill inside . I will glue it to the handle using araldite or some such adhesive , after I mark and drill for new bolts .
I might also fix it some other way once I get the handle off and and see what I can do . I did fix it before using super glue iirc , to glue the broken bits back on . Its held for atleast 2 years, but the bolts are very rusted and the rubber backing is perished badly .I might use the old rubber backing or I might use some inner tube .
They come up on ebay regular.
just put my freelander through mot, found out that there is no prop shaft fitted, have i been shafted?? WHAT WOULD BE THE REASON FOR REMOVING IT ?? CHEERS STEVE
