hi people before i start great forum :) ive got a 1999 1.8 freelander 1 and having trouble with the electrics  sometimes it would turn over somtimes it wont now its stop all together, i cleaned all the battery terminals and and starter terminals also the switched live to the solenoid i got the odd spin but still no good, if i run a wire from the live to the switch live on the solenoid it spins over fine so i put a multimeter on the switched live feed and i get 12v somtimes but most of the time nothing :( thinking maybe the imobiliser? any help would be great plus it keeps the mrs off my back :)

I would start by checking the output from the ignition switch to see if this is consistently giving the supply voltage when you turn it to the start position, this will either rule out or confirm a faulty switch, if ok then check the wiring between the switch and the starter.

Certainly could be the immobiliser though but best to rule out other problems first - when you turn the key to switch on the ignition does the alarm light go off?
