I just push mine upwards where the bracket meets the window and it lifts off, might need a gentle tap upwards.
Thanks for that man, mine has been rattling for a while, I tried everything, apart from what now seems obvious!

Wondering about swapping the standard mirror for one from an MGF: will give map reading lights in our 3-door
It's a common upgrade. I've got one ready to fit to mine. When I find the time.
Getting time for little nods like this... yup I have the same problems! Lol

I picked up an MGF mirror with lights and dashboard dimmer switch, (to fit in that blanked square hole next to the steering column), for a tenner, from a breakers.
They are sitting in my box of 'to do' jobs...
I'll try get the mirror fitted before winter comes, as the light in a 3-door is awful, relying on just the central (dim) roof light.
I can never understand why simple things like this never made it to the production vehicles. I think the dimmer switch was only an option the US.

Costs are the likely reason things don't male it into production.
The dash dimmer is a strange one. I now have one fitted into my SE, although it's not wired up yet.

I have noticed mine has started to wobble is here a nut/screw on the back that i can tighten the mirror up ? i have not heard of the mgf upgrade i will have to look in to that . I do have a rear view mirror that has a built in temp and compass, but I think it is just a little too long it catches the sun visor
Not sure of the value of the dash dimmer - once it is set once, you leave it alone! Well I do anyway... and I don't find that the illumination is too bright or to too dim.
But I agree that the 3-door illumination is a bit poor in the front of the cabin from its central lamp - so the MGF rear view mirror should be ideal
How easy is it to run the wire from the existing lamp?

It easy running 3 wires on the 5 door. The 3 door will need longer wires to go around the roof void. You'll need to pull the roof lining down a bit to gain access for running the wires. You'll need 3 wires in total.
