Good day, Folks,

I am going to order some parts (front brake pads) from Paddocks, their web site gives me two options . . .
Front brakes to YA999999 and Front Brakes from 1A000001. I am guessing that these are Chassis numbers?
My Chassis number is nothing like either of these, Does anyone have any idea what it is that Paddocks are looking for, or have any idea what I should be looking for?

Thanks

Simes

They are the last characters of your VIN. YA999999 are the 'yellow indicator' cars up to 2000 and have smaller (non-vented) brakes. 1A000001+ cars are 2000 on and have larger vented disks. So the question is, what year is your car?

I think there was a model change in 2002 where VINs end 2A..... and then the facelift change are 4A..... Probably wrong with those. If you search on here, you'll find the relevant codes, but they all use the same brakes as the 1A.... cars (I believe).

Actually, the question isn't what year, its what does your VIN end in. My car's VIN is SALLNABB7XA652178, so it ends in XA... as its a 1999 car. If you go to this website...

http://www.clifton.nl/index.html?calvin.html

...and tap in your VIN, it shows you it broken down. Mine for example shows...

SAL Manufacturer code: Land Rover
LN Model: Freelander
A Wheel base: 100.6 inch, standard trim
B Body type: 5-door station wagon
B Engine type: 2.0 litre Td4 turbodiesel (L series)
7 Steering and transmission: Right-hand drive (RHD), 5-speed manual (LT85, LT77, LT77S, R380 or other)
X Model year: 1999
A Assembly location: Solihull, UK
652178 Serial number

I don't know how up-to-date that system is and whether it will correctly decode later Freelander VINs.

Hmm,
Nice concise reply, The car is a 2006 Model, one of the last made I believe.
Your reply has helped with my understanding of the VIN (chassis No). The last few of mine appear to be 6A808283. Many thanks for your help with this simple matter.

Best wishes,
Simes

Freelander 1 was built as CKD completely knocked down, in Malaysia, South Africa and Thailand.
