This was a 1.8 DIESEL not PETROL - strange or not???

Passed a garage today and spotted a Freelander on the forecourt. Went in to take a look with a view to buying it and everything looked good. Wasn't until I got home and ran it through the insurance quote websites that I spotted that when I input the registration it kept coming up as a petrol. Was def a diesel though, it had a dirty big sticker on the window and I noticed a warning sticker on the rear quarter-light above the filler cap.

Can't find any info on 1.8 diesels so does this look like it may have been converted? Should I avoid this or not?

1.8 XEi on a '05 plate with just over 37000 miles, really good condition, FSH and a few extras fitted (light guards, side running boards) - sticker price £7495. Does that sound good? Any help appreciated :)

you do know you could get a really nice proper landy for that sort of money ?

By that I take it you mean Defender? My brother has a 90 and he wanted me to go for a Defender too :) I decided not to go for that car anyway. I opted for a 1.8 XEi petrol, 54 plate, less than 16k miles, £7200.

dvla have it listed as petrol....

DVLA Vehicle Licensing Online | Vehicle Enquiry

think i'd be doing an hpi check and a very close check of engine and chassis numbers against hpi and logbook

Yes it's all very odd. I am beginning to wonder if the garage hasn't just made a huge mistake.

I wonder if the rear hardtop isn't the original for the car they have and the guy has looked at the diesel sticker on that and everything has been carried forward from there.
