Freelander’s seem to hold their price very well.

I bought my 2003 TD4 Kalahari Auto back in June 2008 for just under £3000 at auction. I kept it for 18 months and sold it with 120,000 miles on the clock for £4200 back in December 2009.

So I put 18,000 miles on it, just done a basic service on it myself twice and I made £1200 profit. I still see the same model and year for sale with prices above £5000 So they hold their price very well.

Why did I sell it? Well it did not like driving over 200 miles on 75% petrol in the fuel  but I seemed to get away with it as when refilled with diesel it ran ok. All the same after a couple of months I decided to sell it in case trouble was just around the corner.

I then bought a 4 year old Ford Mondeo at auction and lost £1000 in depreciation on that in 10 months  That was not good, so back to a Land Rover I went.

I now own a 1996 300 TDi Disco ES, I have spent loads of cash on it unlike the Freelander I had. I am working on it a couple of times a month replacing something or welding it back on. I am getting addicted to buying parts that dont even need replacing yet.

I love it, but will it hold its value of £2500 for the next few years or even increase like my Freelander did?

I have a 2004 Mondeo TDCi estate and its a great car - for the size engine fuel consumption is great over 55mpg. I paid £4200 from a dealer on eBay when it was 3 years old and apart from a DMF failure last April its been pretty reliable.

Still prefer driving my Freelander though :)
