Can anyone out there Help?
My 2000(X) reg Freelander TD4 Auto is losing cooling fluid, but only after it has cooled down!
I bought a brand new expansion tank and cap, fitted them and everything seemed to be alright. But after driving the vehicle for 3 days on journeys of no more than 2 or 3 miles and checking the cooling fluid levels before every trip, I went out to the vehicle yesterday morning and found the expansion tank empty. This was the morning after I had checked the level the previous morning. I then refilled the tank, drove into Bournemouth, a journey of 30 plus miles there and back rechecked the level this morning and it hasn"t lost any fluid! What"s going on? Can anyone help?
Why does it only lose cooling fluid when it is cooling down?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Dave.

My 2000 freelander kept losing coolant, over a period of time i found 3 separate leaks. I removed the undertray, started the engine and let it get up to temp. I then looked over every hose and joint searching for leaks and looking for drips. At this age it could be perished rubber hoses.
Mine had two leaking hoses and a rusted through coolant rail.
Its worth checking the oil cap and dip stick for mayonaise just to rule out HGF.
If you carpets are wet/damp inside the footwell then it could be a leaking heater matrix.
