On recommendation, I have just replaced on my Disco 2 the clutch & flywheel with a Britpart heavy duty replacement kit (DA2357HD). I have driven 2 other disco's with the same kit which contains bearing/cover/plate & single mass flywheel to replace the dual mass & both have covered good mileage with no issues so far (spigot bearing, guide sleeve& rr crank seal also replaced at the same time)
A much cheaper (& hopefully longer lasting) alternative to replacing to OE spec & I have to say what a great difference it has made.
With such a conversion, the only downside is some extra chatter at stationary & low speeds in bigger gears obviously brings a little more vibration through the drivetrain as the dampening effect of the old dual mass is no longer there.
But overall I'm very pleased & will hopefully have no issues, any of which I'll post here!

Ive driven others with the same & they have no issues-Im not claiming its heavy duty, that is how its sold, I am only claiming it prevents a dual mass flywheel from falling to bits.
Im fully aware of the reputation Britpart has with a lot of people, I was simply offering/sharing information in the true sense of a forum.
I was not asking for any opinion of this post.
Have you fitted one? driven a car with one? had one fail?
If so, please enlighten...or go & play with yourself on Twitter

yes to all of the above - I'm not minded to repeat the whole britpart quality thing that's been done to death and fortunately most sensible people steer well clear of their offerings - it's your money feel free to do what you want with your's

maybe i should just have commented along the lines of "beware all britpart components as they will cause serious damage to your wealth"

and there was really no need to remove the contents of your first post (and then put it back 10 minutes later) - shirly your not feeling a wee bit defensive about your purchase ?

Oh how convenient...I was just checking it to make sure I hadnt made myself look like the ignorant c**t you portrayed me to be.
When it breaks then I'll send you some flowers in thanks for your wealth of experience :focus:

((GIVE IT UP keep it friendly))

changed my clutch about 9 months ago and was very tempted to go with a solid flywheel but because i had already got the clutch i stuck another duel mass one on only time will tell if i did the right thing

Well lets just see how it holds up. everyone seems quick to slate it but i may last longer that a genuine dual mass so money well spent if not dont buy another. maybe people are jelous.

you really are very very defensive, i certainly wasnt attempting to portray you as an ignorant c**t, there was no need as your "i've just fitted a britpart HD" comment negated the need to reply along those lines

even if the clutch plate dont last the flywheel should and then you could put a oem clutch in ( but saying that i here more bad things about valeo clutches than britpart)
as i understad they are tdi clutch but not 100%

AFAIK the dual-mass flywheels are there simply to cushion the firing pulses of the big diesel up front, and in the process they extend the lifetime of the gearbox input shaft and clutch centre plate.

Fitting a solid flywheel takes you back in mechanical time to the days of a fairly rough engine, but the TD5 isn't that bad and certainly should be OK for normal drivers. That extra cylinder does make a big difference.

One of the reasons we bought a V8 instead of the TD5 was the flywheel and the cracking head/fuel rail issues.

Has anyone taken a big welder to a dual mass flywheel and made it solid single mass?

Hope you are taking the pi--, perhaps nearly as much as LR were when they decided to re-invent the wheel and fit the cr-p in the first place.
(I'm very cheesed of at having to replace parts or explain part failure on things that should last the life of the vehicle......)
