fold dow rear step non return 300tdi

P reg 300tdi has got one of those fancy push down steps at the back,you know,the ones that go back up on their own.....cept this one dont.Go back up that is.Just flops about.
Cursory inspection reveals small unit,6-8",looks like a gas strut for holding your volvo estate back door open,but smaller.Item shows no resistance either way.Origin of fault?Looks like it.

Does anyone have experience of this?Are the struts available singly?Who and how much?

Id like to keep this one on cos its the car I use for the disabled missis and this helps her get in and out the back.

They have a nasty habit of ceasing up, like on mine:doh: , have you not considered a static step (attached to tow bar) that would only set you back £20.
