Hi guys. I'm fitting a steel front bumper next weekend and have to remove the fog lights but I want to use the electrical connections and current switch to power spotlights which I'll attach to the roof rack

Are there any of the shelf options that can do this or does anyone have any advice?

Are front fog lights part of the MOT? If so it will fail if the switch turns on lights mounted on the roof. Also, don't front fog lights turn off when you turn your headlights on? I'd have thought you'd want them on at the same time.
Obviously if this is an off road vehicle then assuming you won't be MOTing it

If the foglights are wired so that you have to have sidelights on , you will have to have another relay in circuit so that they go off when you operate dipswitch to dip , to be legal , as you can only have one pair of dipped headlights on at a time other than in fog or reduced visibility (less than 100yds) . The extra relay is good in your scenario as you can then feed power to the lights on a shorter supply , to avoid voltage drop . You wont find a suitable harness as a plug and play option . If you are not really up to speed and understand what i have posted , then you need to get a good auto lecky to sort it . HTSH :)

Don’t worry about the MOT, inspection of front foglamps is only when fitted to vehicles first used on or after 1 March 2018.
Better to use an independent wiring circuit for roof lamps, therefore the lamps can be switched on when needed.
But there’s nothing to stop u using the existing front foglamp circuit, assuming its factory fitted and will be using a LED roof lamp, although roof lamps will only work when the sidelights are on, as the existing fogs do, which I’m sure u know that.
Unlike front mounted spot/driving lamps, only on with main high beam and off when dip beam is selected.

see https://www.mot-testing.service.gov.uk/documents/manuals/class3457/ for latest MOT testing. Specifically https://www.mot-testing.service.gov...ors-and-electrical-equipment.html#section_4.2
Judging by the number of lorries that run around with as many spotlights as a Christmas tree, I think you would be safe to have them wired in to come on with your high beams only when on the road, but independently when off road. Fog lamps are traditionally positioned really low at the front of a car as that is where they are most effective, they also have a specific type of beam shape. +1 to Discool on all he said as well.

Both of my bumper lights and the light bar are switched on using the fog light switch as like yourself I no longer have the original fog lights. Of course I I only use them when I'm off road (cough cough, honest officer)
I just bought all the relays and wiring from halfords cos I've got a trade card and used the fog light wiring to active each relay.

Thanks - so it is doable.

Thanks for eveyone elses advice. I'll get the bumper fitted and then work out the next step. Not great with car electrics but I'll give it a go.
