There seems to be a plague of duff Lithium cells about, could be fakes I suppose. You are not the first to find some have a life expectancy calculated in minutes Alan.Afternoon all prisoners. Changed the fob batteries a couple of days ago.yesterday the low fob battery warning showed on the dash.took them out and one is showing just over 1 volt the other just over 3volts. I tested them both before fitting and they were fine, they are Panasonic with a expiry date of 2029.I have done @wammers mod tith insulation tape inside the battery holder, any ideas?
I bought them as a pack of three so I'll replace the duff one and see how long it lasts.
I dont keep them in my pocket mate,did think it could be a sticking button but the transmit light is not lit. I sent it off a while ago to have a new button fitted, it came back with this fault,sent it back to be to be checked came back and worked for a short time.In the end I just used the key. It's just I've got time on my hands at the mo.
If it's the FOB draining the batteries, normally I would expect the voltage to be down to a similar level on both. they didn't come from the Pound Shop did they?

Wellas you posted I have changed them a few times, I've tried JCB, and this tine Panasonic all with good expiry dates. Fitted the third battery last night, both were showing just over 3.2volts. Just taken them out and,considering the fob has sat in the kitchen all night without being used, one battery is reading 1.38v and the other 2.9v as @Datatek posted if the fob was draining surely both batteries would show more or less the same discharge.
Do you wear plastic gloves when handling the batteries or your bare hands. Grease from the hands has been known to damage/short out the batteries. Just a thought

No way grease from you hands will damage/short out a Lithium button cell.
I remember when I used to have to change some of the exterior light bulbs and tubes was warned always to wear gloves to not come into contact with the glass to cause shorter life span. I thought the small batteries were the same. Thanks for clearing that up.
Grease on glass is a different matter, the glass on high pressure sodium bulbs for example can actually break if there are greasy fingerprints on the glass due to the change in the local rate of expansion as the tube heats up, they get very hot.
