Flywheel/clutch replacement - What parts?!

Hi all,
My 90 TD5 (which had been brilliant so far) has developed a bit of a problem. I've spoke to the specialists i always use and it looks as though its the dual mass flywheel which is going to need replacing. I'm planning on doing this myself (good idea?) but I'm only going to have a weekend to do it in so I could really do with having all of the parts together before i start so i thought I would ask you guys if any of you can think of any of those silly little parts which always seem to hold up a job which i might need?
Is the Valeo flywheel good? I'd much prefer to keep it as a dual mass flywheel rather than putting in a single mass one and it seems to be the one which most people are going for...
Would it also be worth doing the clutch at the same time while it's all out of the car? It's on 113k and although I've not had any problems with it and it feels okay i cant see any evidence in the paperwork of it having been replaced any any point before i had it...
I'd also quite like to swap the transfer box for a disco one while it's all out. What are the common things to look out for on the transfer box? What kind of tests can be done to see if the box is in good condition outside of the car?
Sorry for all the questions but you all know much more than me! I might also try and do a photo "How to guide" for anyone else who needs to do the same in the future.

defo change the clutch as well. Why do you want to keep the dual mass flywheel? I`ve heard all bad things about them.
 
Ideally you should fit a new clutch kit with the dual mass,it would be a false economy not to given that the milage is quite high,also a good idea to change the spigot bearing at the same time as they can give problems on the Td5 lump

John - I'm not quite sure why i put that to be honest. It seems like a good idea to keep it as it was designed although tbh if it's more reliable then i would be temped by the single mass. Would it put more strain on the rest of the transmission? I don't want my clutch wearing out more quickly or something stupid like that :/

Henry - I'm definitely going to fit a new clutch as well. Have you got any ideas on the best replacement makes? I think i'll be steering clear of Britpart. Is valeo any good?

Completely agree.
 
Valeo are top quality components, and OE on alot of manufacturers too. Regarding the release bearing though, if you can, opt for a borg & beck bearing, they seem to be a bit more durable than Valeo/LUK ones.

Keep the DMF, it's there for a reason, and is unlikely to cause a problem once it's been changed.

Thanks for the advice Matt. I think i will keep it as a DMF. As you said - it must be there for a reason.

On a slightly different note - i've been meaning to swap the transfer box for a discovery one for quite a while now and again it seems like an ideal time to do it.
Does anyone know what the difference between a 36D and a 38D disco transfer box is? will they both fit into my 2000 TD5 90?
