Hi, my L322 is trying to send me a message in Morse code. I have a 2002, 4.4 petrol. A few minutes after turning on the headlights the main beam flickers on an off, really annoying! Not just for me but the car in front too. They think I either know them or I'm flagging them down. Does anyone know why this is happening?
Thanks in advance .

If it has HID lamps maybe the unit breaking down.

I used to have a Disco and flickering was caused by a burnt out relay. Could hear it chattering in the dashboard.

Thanks for your comments. I might have a look this weekend. In the meantime just using side lights and fog lights, they're really quite bright.

Please tell me you don't mean instead of headlamps, after lighting up time. If you do mean that you are breaking the law............ twice. One for no headlamps and two for using fog lamps when not required.

Whilst yes, to the letter of the law it is indeed illegal....but I would hope (as happened to me) that a sympathetic police officer would appreciate the driver of the vehicle is doing what he can to alert other road users to the presence of his car. As long as this is for emergency use only and not on a constant basis.

I had this in one of my old company cars, both bulbs blew at the same time when I turned them on to attend a call out at work (being the deisnger of the equipment that had broken down causing an AoG incident (Aircraft on Ground) I had to attend) and it being late night, and needing to use the motorway, I was stopped by the plod and asked me to turn on my dipped beam and switch off the fogs....I explained and showed that te lamps didn't work and I thought it best considering I would be on a motorway to at least do my best to illuminate my vehicle for the benefit of other road users.....they shrugged and said, sounds fair, just get them repaired.....

And off we went.

So while illegal, I would hope common sense would prevail....

Which is why I asked the question, rather than just going straight to "you are breaking the law" ;) :p
However, reading the "I might" and "in the meantime" , combined with the post going up 6 days ago, one, could quite easily be forgiven for reading that as , more than just once to get home ;)
I have been sympathetic in my time. Sometimes, it has been genuine, sometimes they have ben taking the p and I have stopped them again and been a lot less sympathetic ;)
We'll soon know if the op's "I might" becomes " I didn't bother", after the weekend :)
