Me Battery keeps going flat. It looks to be in good condition and it was holding charge for weeks on end a month or so ago. Car starts OK with Jump leads (3 - 4 turns of engine and it starts). But next morning, battery can only just turn engine over about 7 - 8 times and it won't start. The Alternator 'looks' in good nick and the drive belt is quite new and tight. Also I've checked that no interior lights staying on after about 15 secs. after locking doors.
I waz wundrin, wiv all this orrible wet rain stuff everywhere, can anybody suggest a scenario where damp could lead to +ve sumwhere leaking to earth and draining me battery?
Does anybody know of any tests I can do to home in on problem?

Thanx

Battery is 3 years old. I accept that it 'could' be the battery, but as I am as tight as a duck's posterior, I am allergic to spending arounf £50 for a new one if its summat as simple as a loose or wet wire somewhere. But, yeh, it could be the battery.

Get yer landy started, do a check to make sure yer alternator is charging and then go for a drive. After about 20 mins driving, pop into yer local garage. They'll test yer battery free of charge. They make their money when they get to sell you a new one. If yer that tight and they condemn it tell em it's only 2 years old and so should be under warranty where you got it from. Then make a tactical withdrawl.;)

wel have you checked for loose wires then? its unlikely to be damp really, more likely to be battery or alternator, not much else

Cheers Guyz. I haven't really done a thorough check for loose wires, but I think that I'll try wot Ratty sez first as I am quite good at making tactical withdrawals (so the wife says). I bet it is the battery even if it does look quite pretty and clean.

Will let you know what the result is.

Cheerz again guys.

Right guyz, here's the latest info.
Battery has been on trickle charge since 2:45. I've just disconnected charger and checked battery voltage. 12.98V, then 5 secs later 12.95v, then 5 secs later 12.93V etc., steady now at 12.01v.
So the battery is obviously simply knackered (where have I heard that before?).
Its only 3 yrs old (according to paperwork that came with Disco wen I bought it Feb this yr.), so what causes a 4 year guarantee battery to go down the pan so soon?
I'm gonna buy a new battery manana.
Any reccommends?
