Hi all!

The battery on my Freelander 2002 TD4 seems to have run flat and won't start (I get a click, click, click noise when I turn the key). I've bought a jumpstarter but I'm concerned that as well as the red battery light coming on when I turn the key in the ignition I am also getting a red oil can light too. Can anyone enlighten me to what this is about? I've check the oil with the dipstick and it seems fine but admittedly I haven't put any oil in the car since buying it and I've done 5000 mile.

It just seems weird that I'm getting the oil light when it looks like a battery problem.

Thanks in advance!!!!

If the engine isn't running, the oil light will come on, because there is no oil pressure.

Or do you mean the red light is on when the engine is running?

Ah ok. I haven't managed to get the engine running yet due to the flat battery.

What happens is that, when I put the key in and turn it to the first notch all the dash lights come on as normal then go off except the battery and oil can light. These stay on.

So you're saying that's normal?

Cheers for your help!

That is normal. Have you ever driven a car before?:D

Back to the battery fault.

The rapid clicking is the starter solenoid cycling because there's not enough power in the battery to spin the starter. Basically the solenoid activates (the first click), which connects the starter motor, but there's not enough current available to turn the motor, so the solenoid drops out again and the cycle is repeated, click, click, click. The oil light and ign light are normally if the engine isn't running as has already been said.

Replac your battery or charge it and identify why it's gone flat to start with. ;)
