Since purchasing my Freelander 2 my son who has had a Freelander 1 for about 9 years is now looking to upgrade his to a FL2.

He has seen a FL2 being advertised, its 2007 with an automatic box and approx 110,000 miles on the clock, MOT until May 2022 and has full service history. It is being advertised for £1600. the owner states it needs a manifold hence the price.

A question was sent and it appears the inlet manifold has split.

Is the inlet manifold an issue with FL2 and what are they like to replace?

Many thanks in advance.

The FL2 inlet manifold isn't difficult to replace, but they don't normally split. It's normally the swirl flaps that break off, and get ingested by the engine, causing damage to the valves, piston and sometimes the turbo too.

The manifold is an easy 2 hour job to replace, but get the later 2010 onwards replacement, which doesn't have the flaps.

The price is good, I paid more than that for my manual SE, with a damaged engine.

However be prepared to catch up on missing or poor maintenance, which these seem to suffer. :(

Thats great Nodge68, just the sort of information and advice I was hoping to receive.;)

The thinking behind the query was it would be possible to keep running his FL1 whilst carrying out any necessary work to the FL2 assuming a deal can be done.

I suppose the next question would be to find out whether the owner knows any further information and to confirm the engine is still running ok thus eliminating the swirl flaps scenario you mention.
