The FL2 has a Haldex coupling - as used by VW / Audi, and Volvo.
Two versions have been used - depends on age of car.
Effectively a electronically controlled hydraulically operated clutch, close coupled to the rear diff.
So unlike the FL1 which has permenant 4wd that gets progressivly more positive when it detects slippage, the FL2 has 2wd when in normal mode, 4wd when it detects slippage, and "permenant" 4wd when terrain response selected.
Should save on fuel - my 2008 auto does 32mpg as opposed to my old 2006 auto that did 30mpg.
Should save on tyres - managed 32k out of this set of Wranglers, my old car managed 30K out of a set of Wranglers.
Just goes to show the old setup when it was working was just fine.
shouldnt "So unlike the FL1 which has permenant 4wd that gets progressivly more positive when it detects slippage" read.....
"So unlike the FL1 which has permanent 4wd that gets progressivly more positive when it fails"
You forget that I have now crossed over to the other side (FL2) and look back on my FL1 with fond memories.
Nothing can have been that unreliable, it's just my imagination playing tricks
Spend much less time at the dealers - more time at work trying to afford the new toy.
