Hi all has anyone fitted the LR Part No YWJ500070 genuine 13 pin electrics? I have tried searching with no joy.

Trying to find out if it's an easy do it yourself or not?

I guess it's not as straight forwards as the 7 pin plug and play?

Any help and advice would be great.

Just I case it makes a difference my car is a 2004 auto TD4 FL1.

Many thanks

Adam

Here's where they all go.. You'll have to check which are already connected to the plug in connector for the loom and work the others out for yourself I think.

No instruction sheet with the kit? Have a look on Topix site, they have quite a few of the fitting guides, you might be lucky

Number Function 13 Core wire colour core size
1 Left Hand Indicator Yellow 1.5

2 Rear fog light(s) Blue 1.5

3 Earth for contacts 1 to 8 white 2.5

4 Right Hand Indicator green 1.5

5 RHS lights, marker lights & number plate light. Brown 1.5

6 Brake lights Red 1.5

7 LHS lights, marker lights & number plate light. Black 1.5

8 Reversing light(s) Pink 1.5

9 Positive direct from battery (Power) Orange 2.5

10 Positive ignition key on (Fridge) Grey 2.5

11 Earth return for contact 10 White/Black 2.5

12 Signalling connection to trailer White/Blue 1.5

13 Earth return for contact 9 White/Red 2.5

Hope that helps a bit

No one at all fitted one? :-(

This is probably not the help or advice you are looking for, as I have not fitted a genuine LR 13 pin kit, but have a 13 pin socket on both the TD4 and my M-B Sprinter van so I can tow trailers and caravans in Germany and Austria for work which all have 13 pin plugs.

I only have the 7 wires connected. It was bloody fiddly as they are really tightly packed in there. All I did was take off the 7 pin socket and replace it with the 13 as the adapters are a pain in the ass and work loose on tight corners.

I have connectors / adapters which are from 7 to 13 and from 13 to 7.

Why oh why are there 2 systems????

Have you checked on Topix for the genuine fitting instructions?

What help do you need?

Singvogel.

The "old" 12N sockets didn't have reverse lights, they were on the 12S, but reverse lights are becoming a legal requirement on trailers this year iirc.

I assume the in car wiring takes into account the possible need for both, so I would think that you can simply take the feeds from the fitted 12s wiring to connect the extras on a 13pin - the switched live, the reverse lights etc.

Only have a single socket on our FL and SWMBO has gone to work now so I cant check what's there and what isnt.... Got a 13 on the German truck though so above is correct, although I use a plug in adapter for a UK trailer most of the time!

Just seen Singvogel's reply.

It does depend on what you're wanting to hook up to it I suppose. Just wiring in the necessary legal requirements is a good suggestion if you're a bit confused, but it shouldn't be too hard to do it. Where are you, perhaps someone can come and give you a hand if you're really stuck?

As to "why 2 systems"? I think it's another example of us being a bit late catching up on our little island :)

Thanks guys, not heard of topix what's that?

I have not brought the kit yet just tring to find out if it's do it yourself or get someone to fit it?

It's for our new caravan which has a 13 pin and IDC so can not just use a converter plug unfortunately :-(.

Hi, I just checked on Topix and it seems to only give instructions for the other kit YWJ500071 but there are other kits for you to check.

Topix is the Official LandRover world-wide info site. Register for free and you get loads of info. Put in your vehicle VIN number and you even get the date it was built, recalls, first reg etc.
Some of the service stuff is subscription only - workshop procedures for garages etc. but the free owners manuals for every Landrover ever made and the fitting instructions for all (maybe not the kit you want) genuine LR accessories and options is usually pretty good.

Just had a thought - if you already have the twin sockets 12N and 12S, then I'm sure I have seen a 'Y' shaped set of leads which have the two plugs to go on the car and have a 13 pin socket to take the plug from the caravan.

Is IDC the remote acces to caravan, alarm etc? I'd leave that to the caravan dealer to cover potential insurance issues, should you ever need to make a claim, I think. Sorry can't be more help

Cheers for the replys I only have the 7 pin at the moment unfortunantly :-(

IDC is the new caravan anti snake thing only works with the 13 pin thou.
