Hello peeps, i asked last week about my really loud chirping/squeeking(which started after i washed the engine bay) and i ended up buying a aux drive belt tensioner repair kit (bearings and snap ring) from e bay. I was so convinced that it would stop the noise but it hasn't!!!! The noise is exactly the same. I did exactly as it said on the instructions and now i really am stuck. My brother/assistant questioned whether i should have used grease on fitting the new bearing but it didn't say on the instructions so i didn't ?

I drove it a couple miles, came home and sprayed wd40 on the tensioner pulley and as before it stops the squeek for a few seconds and it starts up again.

Anyone got any ideas, please:eek:

are you sure it's the tensioner?

could be alternator, water pump or power steering pump.

mine went after i replaced the alternator

then the water pump fooked up

just waiting for the p/s pump to blow now:rolleyes:

No, i didn't put the penny back in. I'll give that a try later. I did put a couple drops of 3in1 oil on the smooth face of the tensioner pulley last night, and the noise changed ???

Had/got this problem on my mates 300TDi, changed the Alt as the bearing had just about gone, changed the water pump and tensioner, has bought 2 new aux belts and it's still there.

Well this morning we put the other belt on which is 15mm longer, and was a lot easier to get on, didn't have to use a pry bar on the spanner to loosen the tensioner

Went for a test drive and stopped it, unless you went over 2K and it was very faint so just waiting for the belt to settle in........ lets see what happens
