Took plastic bumper off yesterday, with much grinding of teeth and use of hacksaw on seized bolts...now...fit the new winch bumper today...so

I am having trouble believing that the 2 bolts on each chassis leg are enough to support the bumper which weighs about the same as Belgium...let alone when i put a winch on too..is this right?? Surely it needs more than that??

Just fitted my winch bumper and winch yesterday with no problems, also my steering guard fits to the same place. It does seem alot of weight to be placed on on four bolts, but seems to work fine. Tested mine out by pulling on a 200tdi

I have 3 in each on mine. All galvanised high tensile, they have A shear rating of 6 tons a pice. so it should be ok. I recon the chassy would fail before the bolts do. although I would say not to get them fro B&Q but a proper tool and bearing place and get high tensile ones.

I always thougnt that but after getting stick in a hole in freezing conditions and having to use 3 winches all pulling on the bumper (mine + 2 others) i was convinced its good enough...

Make sure the bolts are as said 8.8's or higher forget stainless they are brittle High tensile bolts. Actually screwfix do a range and stamped 8.8's. On my 90 I have used hex headed bolts and these are rated 12.9's.

Un stamped bolts are usually less than 4.4. Spitfiremk1uk bought a winch from Billing last year and the 4 bolts were stamped 4.4 rating. they were junled for 8.8's!
