OK, I have decided that DIY on my Landy cant be rocket science, so I'm going to try it out.

I have the workshop manual, but it doesn't actually tell me anything useful. Well it might if I wanted to fix the Landy but I want to add something to it.

It has a van back and I'm going to fit it out with saddle racks and other stuff. Problem is it doesn't have a light in the back.

I have rewired horse trailers in the past succesfully and even coped with the socket on my old Landy which was entirely wired with black wire. But at least you knew one of the wires did what you wanted, so it was just trial and error.

If I fit lights and a switch in the back, where do I take the feed from. But more important (in case I want to do more jobs :D ) where do you find this stuff out.

Also has anyone recommendations for lights for the back. I want it to be quite bright as we do sometimes end up doing evening performances at shows in the dark and finding things in a heap of horse stuff can be difficult.

all brown wires are battery lives ,starter solenoid with battery lead is a good place to run feed from to fuse and switch ,any suitable place on body for the earth

Thank you, so I have to take the feed before the fuse box and then put it onto a fuse, rather than join it to something that has already been through the fuse box.

I haven't dealt with wiring fuses before as the trailer took its power from the socket.

What about spliting the wire into the current interior light. That comes on without the ignition so I assume comes from the battery.

It must have power all the time as you can switch it on when the doors are shut.

So where do you find out what colour is what. Its easy for trailers, its standard, isn't it the same for cars. Why would they not all be the same.

Honestly these vehicles must be designed by men, women would be far more logical :D

Thank you, I just want to add some more interior lights to the back.

Its a project for the weekend, destressing :D :D or not perhaps

you could run a similar light as interior off it no problem ,much more run fresh feed from starter and run through fuse or fuse box if you have a few things in mind

Thanks just the lights so I will go for the easy option

Oh dear, thank you , I really shouldn't have asked

My fault for saying it wasn't rocket science. One day when I have nothing to do I will study that instead of reading trashy novels and work out what it actually means.

Oh and one final question. If I am using the purple wire, I assume I should use purple wire to the new lights.

Where do you buy coloured wire from. I only have red and black in the garage.

it doesnt matter what colour you use red for live and black for earth is fine

but purple would be better.

Thank you

what happonds if your colour blind :D

You end up with a vehicle like my old Landy, the entire back end had been re wired entirely with black :D. Whenever I disconnecting anything I had to put a coloured label on the wire and another on where I disconnected it from :D

but purple would be better.

Thank you, there is a motor factor about half a mile away. Never think of going in there as I think of them as being for the trade. Will call in this morning.
