Seemingly obvious and daft question I know but here goes.......

The wife has bought me some mud flaps as a prezzy so I went out to the car in anticipation to try to see if I could move the screws in the wheel arches for when they arrive......

Simple task I thought....... But

Can I get the buggers to move, no way...... Copious amounts of WD40 still no go......

Any help from anyone who has performed this would be great and much appreciated.

Last time I checked I was male....... :)

I just dont want to knacker the heads on the screws as they are already well rusted and dont look tike they would stand up to much abuse....

I think a previous owner may have had a go at them at some point...

Hence the question if there was any special knack so to speak
 
sorry, seeing you owned a Freelander i assumed ...... anyways, spraying a water dispersant on it won't help - try a dismantling fluid such as Plusgaz
 
wickes also do a pentrating fluid, which I bought in an emergency, but seems quite like the plusgas mentioned by sean, and less like wd40.

probably just diesel and parafin mix though. works well enough.
 
The screws won't be much good to re-use if they're totally rusted up so i wouldn't worry about damaging them. Get some pliers or mole grips around them, that some get them shifting. If that fails, grind a straight slot into them with a hobby drill and then you can put a straight headed screw driver into the slot.

Problem with them rusting is they won't give much grip to your philips screwdriver. They're only screwed into plastic so they won't be rusted per-se, they just need good grip.

Then once they're out replace them with some stainless screws with some large washers.
 
i fitted front and rear just before xmas and as the previous post says, the best bet is to use mole grips and bin the screws and use some nice new ones. thats wot I had to do, oh they were a pain in the arse to get out. :D
