Well bugger me, that charging station is exactly midway between where I am and my Fils place in Norfolk!
I can well see hydrogen being a possible answer, as batteries are not going to cut it in the commercial vehicle world.

Ps we have the same perkins engine in our boat, good lumps.

You may find gensets are currnely exempt from tighter emissions regs, same as fridge engines on the truck/trailers?

My gut feeling is that w will see a lot of regulations changing quite quickly, covid, taxes and climate all bundled together. Its going to be hard to predict them and who or what will win and lose. I don't think it makes much sense to invest much time or money into anything until the future becomes clearer. One option would be to hire what you need for now.
Out of interest what size boat does the Perkins power? Mine is the claimed 63hjp vehicle version and it has quite a lot of power, I think the 63 hp is very conservative, it also makes good power at around 1500 rpm.

Our lot at work are going for gas on the trucks, but from what I hear they are very high maintenance wise.

Boat is a Hardy 27 with twin Volvo Penta MD22 naturally aspirated engines, which are rebadged Perkins M50/60, I honestly cannot remember if VP are 49 or 59bhp each, we tend to run them at 1800rpm, which equates to about 5/6 knots, the thing does not go to much faster anyway, and when you push them being direct injection they are a tad noisy! lots of extra sound insualtion added helped a lot.
