Good evening, I have just bought a freelander 1 for my son, I am sure this is in a thread but can't find it so any advice would be great.
I would like to remove the radio head unit and replace.with a screen with.carplay for.radio.and satnav etc. Does.anyone know a reasonably priced model that works and fits, what cables etc do I need etc. Been a while since I dabbled in working on my own car so halfords etc is a blast from the past. Even Haynes manuals bring back distant memories.
Many thanks for any help.

These guys do the cables and facia adapters that you'll need depending on if you have the Becker unit (HSE and Sport Premium models I think) or the standard unit - assuming it's a facelift?. There are a few threads on here about head units, both android and conventional. Do a search.

I recently retro fitted a unit into my FL, it was just a 70 euro AliExpress thingy but it does the trick. I mainly use it for Carplay, I have to admit that the UI is a bit so so when also using the radio or navigation on the screen itself. Still need to work the USB plug away clearly ;-)

I did similar in my Wife's 2005 FL1. First one was slow & clunky, so replaced it with a much faster Joying unit 8-core, 64GB Memory with GPS & 4G, etc. support built in. Their DAB+ app was crap, so used DAB-Z from XDA-Developers instead.

Connectivity was easy using a Freelander to ISO adapter from eBay. Got a data SIM deal with O2 for google maps, etc.

DAB needs a decent antenna, so look at mounting an amplified roof one like this. Don't bother with those stick-on screen antennas !!

If you have the Becker radio with the amplifier under the left seat, it's a bit more work. Easy way is to simply bypass it, and run new speaker wires from the head unit to the speakers.
