Fitting an Engine preheater

Genuine ones have gone up even more! :(

Looked at those other things too, sure they will work well, but I really wanted it to maintain original apperance, old one is functional but a piece broken out of it at the top.

I know what you mean, but unless you have really deep pockets, it's a lot of cash to maintain originality. I bet there's a little company somewhere that could make you a good copy for a lot less.

Finally I know where the pre-heater is going to be installed and I am confident this is correct.
I sent this image to Eugen at HotFrog who has been very helpful!

He confirmed that this is the best place to mount the HotFrog Truck and I've managed to source suitable pipes.
The heater matrix pipe and HotFrog pipes are a different diameter so I visited Spectrum Hose who were also very helpful, two right angle hoses have been ordered that have a different diameter on each end.
I just need to cut them down to the suitable length.

Finished pictures to follow.

Similar to the one he posted, maybe even the same. As I said, looks nothing like the original.

I expect I will end up paying for it, unless I can find a cheaper aftermarket one. Apart from the locking axles, cubby box, and rocksliders, all of which can be easily put back to standard, my vehilce is pretty much 100% original, and now coming up to 27 years old.

What you say is what irritates me, the thing would be easy to make if you could get the material. It seems to be some kind of fake asbestos material. I guess they must have used some kind of wooden form or similar to lay it up on.

Might be lucky to find a second-hand one from a scrapper ...

Bin looking on and off. Being an old motor, and some been abused, the ones I have seen are usually worse than mine.

One of those things though, if someone doesnt start making em the prices will go up and up, and in the end no more around. Been caught out before, thinking I should maybe cough up while I still can.

I've got a 240 plug in my wing connected to a charger so I can charge the battery without taking anything out. Plus it's got a solenoid that fires the plug out if I start the engine to prevent me from driving off with it in. Go for it Mate great Idea.

Love this idea would like more information were to buy how much and best location on vehicle to install

That's a good theory, but I can't drive until the windscreen is demisted and de-iced inside and out, I drive about a mile to walk the dogs in the morning at 6am.
So it would take 20 mins to get enough heat to be effective just running the engine after starting, the preheater will save me a lot of time.

Shoot the dogs, have a lay in until it warms up a bit, save money on leccy and fuel.

if your gonna go to all the trouble of running a 240volt power supply to your landy why not just fit yer wagon with a normal electric small fan heater the heater should be enough to defrost and demist yer landy and keep it warm enough til the engine warms up

I want to warm the engine up as well as providing heat for the blower.
Running a power lead is not a problem.
