Fitting a subwoofer in a FL

Hi guys,

Don't laugh, but I have a subwoofer which I would like to put in the back of my Freelander. Is this an easy job with the FL? I.e. is it easy to get cables from the engine bay into the cabin? Also, do they route nicely alongside the inner side trim?

And before anyone says anything, I'm not one of those morons who likes to drive up and down the town centre all night blasting out crap, chavvy music. I just happen to be a a fan of trance music and simply put, it's not the same without the low range frequencies. Hence why I have a little "FLI" subwoofer to do the job.

depending on the model, there should be wiring present in the storage bin under the floor in the boot for exactly that when fitted with the Harmon Kardon premier sound system

It's a 51 plate ES-X which I presumed was a top spec model? I haven't seen any wiring in the emergency toolkit storage area though.
 
I bought a FLI 12" sub from halfords that came in a wooden MDF surround.

The surround was heavy and under hard driving, used to fly across the boot and rip the cables out of the back.

My solution was to take the door off the cubby hole, jigsaw a circle out of the left hand side of (the left hand side of the cubby hole is deeper) and then fit the actual cone into the hole, replace door and wire amp into the cubby hole too. I've fitted a nice mesh protector over the top of the cone and it looks great tbh.

Mine didn't come with any wiring already in it, however it was easy enough to run all cables down the back of the centre dash, under near the handbreak and right up the centre into the cubby hole. It's also easy enough to route them up the side under the plastic sill protectors if required.

It's a piece of pi$$ to run the cables in. I've done it twice (two cars) with a sony changer and extra sub.

there is a nice cable run under the carpet so just pop out the head unit tie-wrap over the venting system and drop down behind the trim in the footwell of the passanger side. take it off allong with the plastic trim and the door. then you can either take off the rear trim (3door) or under the carpet (5door) to the rear seats... it up to you but at this point I just went down the side of the seats and pop up in the boot ...

having said that I just remebered that I put the changer under the drivers seat. but the sub was in the boot.

took power from the switched supply on the radio as it is only a little amp in it 80w max

there are plenty of ways to get direct power from the battery/engin bay to the cabin on the passanger side.

You're not the first to say that. That said, there's many sub-genre's which fall under the dance category, Trance is just one of them. I wouldn't say it's chav music though simply because it's not mainstream. If we're going to stereotype, I'd say that they tend to prefer Eurodance. (The likes of Cascada and Basshunter etc - Totally different to trance.)

I got round to it this evening but couldn't get the power cable from the engine bay to the cabin. I did find a grommet on the passenger side, behind the fuse box but when I poked the cable through, it just didn't come out anywhere. Now I've run out of light so can't try again until tomorrow.

Any ideas?
 
Think theres a gromit which allows easy access on the drivers side too. just above the accelerator peddel. if u push a coat hanger (straightened out) through from the foot well u should find it in the engine bay, tape the cable on, job done... thats on an 03 plate TD4 anyway. Good luck..

It does come out behind the dash, but it is very fiddly to get to it. This is the same grommet that i run my sub cable through. Try directing the cable downward as you're pushing it through the grommet so it doesn't just sit and collect behind the dash.
