im looking to fit a sound system, nothing to exstravagant but just couple of speakers and a bass, just the defender doesnt seem to have anywhere obvious to fit speakers and im guessing i need to buy a kinda mount thing for the cd player unit.

would love to see pics of what u lot have as a bit of inspiration and any links to where i can buy some of this gear would be good too.
cheers

I can post some pics in a few weeks, installing mids and tweeters in the front, 6.5 inch in the side (below seat belt area) and sub box under lpg tank, also (I'm in for the abuse now :p)... DVD/FREEVIEW/TV in too :)

If you just want some sound you can get a decent 10-12" sub box for around £70-120, I have a few amplifiers if you're interested? Phoenix Gold 2 channel (for sub)/Phoenix Gold 4 channel (good for fronts and sub)/Kenwood 5 channel (good for whole sytem).

ffs why do you want a good sound system if you want things like that buy a disco but not a defender

trust me it will get used to go through the mud too. I used t work as a ICE fitter years ago and still enjoy doing custom installs, just something to pass the time, did only really start doing it as the center console was looking really messy and it just spiraled out of control, as they do.

mine isn't finished yet, so i wnt put any pictures on. But, when its all in ill have:
Pioneer Bluetooth Headunit
150w lightning audio amp
2 speakers in the front powered by said amp, mounted at the front of the roof
2 speakers in the middle and two in the back powered by the head unit - again, up on the roof

one or maybe two subs mounted in hand made enclosures in the back corner/s, fitted properly so that they are secure and yet out of the way, with their own amps. The amps will be wired up out of the way to stop them getting wet, and I plan to use splash proof speakers, when i can afford them!

Should sound good.

Ah did mine a while back as there wasn't any radio in me bus when ah got it. Just a case of runnin' some speaker cable to where ever ye want yer speakers and then findin' out what wire goes where for the radio. Here's a couple of piccies.....

The front speakers are set into the roof linin' above the doors, but ye can mount them down by your knees if ye like.

The other way of mountin' the radio is to get one of these...
