Yeah, nobody ever drives a Landy fast do they......

Yes because these are the most reliable vehicles around, and of course they don't snap 1/2 shafts, blow diffs, **** transmissions and wreck engines.........

Technically NO2/Propane injection will work quite satisfactorily on a diesel engine raising power significantly for short periods of time, the big question for landrovers is why?
I drive a standard 300tdi 90 and considering the limitations of brakes, tyres, handling etc it makes more than enough power for safe driving on the road. I can see the possibilities for off road/motor sport though.

If you want the extra grunt first check you have a healthy engine and drive traine so that it can handle the extra demand on it ie. Turbo not leaking, head cleaned compression test, diyno test, high milage engines will not like this one bit so anything above 150000 this would not be good. Then decide the tipe of kit progressive injection kit would be best not a full on wet kit. All that would only give a return of 15 to 25 hp depending on the engine but add it to other mods such as turbo and injector pump tweaking larger intercooler and you are starting to look at more power. However to keep the disco drivable you would have to upgrade the brakes and suspension.

Are you really that dumb??

You'd do it for EXACTLY the same reason you would a remap to a TD5, a pump tweak to the Tdi, a V8 swap into a 2.5 TD, a 4.6 conversion on a 3.5

If you don't know why people do them then lord help you.
im not that dumb that i would want to make something that has the aerodynamics of brick go as fast as possible i leave that sort of stuff to the knobheads that should be in the corsa owners club with there big eggsauces and pumping stereos,i use my rr for what it is intended:rolleyes:

Not really. The changes you mention above are incremental changes to a vehicle's power output. Using NOS is not incremental, as it radically changes output and, furthermore, you would not run NOS permanently, unlike the above tweaks(sic).Permanently running NOS would blow your engine pretty quick, and empty your wallet even quicker.

As for running propane, then propane engine technology has been around for years, and providing the engine is prepared right, and run within manageable parameters, will not cause undue wear on the engine.

In fact, I was looking at a typical vehicle best suited for propane only the other day. Rear wheel steering; tremendous torque output at less than 1500 rpm. It's towing capacity far exceeds your typical Landy. In fact I have a picture of a similar model here.

Ok so you don't want speed but do want power. What for? How often does a land rover get stuck through lack of power? Usually lack of skil or bad road choice I thought.

Don't get me wrong, you can stuff whatever you want through it, it's your motor but physics decrees that boosting the power of any engine beyond standard will shorten it's life, if not then it would have likely come as standard in that form.

The 300tdi unit is plenty strong enough for 170hp without excessive wear.
Pump tweak
Huge intercooler
Propane
Slightly larger turbo. (More air at less pressure for reduced heat)

Pretty reliable and a big big difference in drive-ability.
I like the extra power, my Landy has a lot of equipment fitted to it and usually has a lot of gear in the rear.
The extra power does make a difference when running 33" tyres. They change the gearing somewhat. 1st is like 2nd and 5th is like a what a 6th would be like.
Different strokes for different folks and whatever blows your hair back..:D

Also I've had a few Landy's and I like the 200tdi and 300tdi motors.
I like them so much I'm looking for a clean D2 for the missus with a blown TD5 so that I can fit a nice reliable trusworthy 300tdi in to it:D

where did it say i wanted power?

hi matt

yep all good over here, cheap beer and found 2 off road site within 10 minutes from err so its good.

I will be going Peterborough in sept, u going?

gonna try and make it if I can get the Sat off work, or might just come over for the day Sunday.

I need to reintroduce myself to the norwich group as I haven't been out with them for ages.

It can be done easily with good results, I've done it but you get the best results from propane.
I've made up a nice small propane kit that includes EGT probe and meter.
I'll post up some pics next week.

any chance of posting some pics of this conversion ?

also what effect on your insurance did this have ?
