If I fit a 200tdi from a Defender rather than a Discovery into my 110 Defender FFR 2.5 n/a Diesel will it go straight in without bell housing, radiator, exhaust, fan cowling and pipework mods like the Discovery 200 tdi would need? Would my original fuel lines be ok?

Ok mate just wanted to try and keep thing simple for future replacement parts like pipes etc. I was going to fit a larger intercooler anyway. U Know any one who could swap the engine for me round our way? Im Colehill LOL!!!

I`d love to but the wiring and re-plumbing of fuel lines etc seems daunting! I guess if I had a picture of a 200 tdi fitted I could follow where the fuel lines and pipes are supposed to be but I wouldn`t know about the ignition wiring and relay for the glow plugs etc. I suppose there`s always the wiring diagrams. I have never done an engine swap before.

Basically yer fuel line comes in from the tank, goes intae the lift pump, out of lift pump, intae filter, out of filter tae the injection pump and there's a return pipe from the injection pump back tae the tank.
only thing ah could think of fur some photies is this..

;)

taint hard wirin goes back to where yer removed it from baring changin connectors and yer fuel lines aint exactly rocket science, plenty of guides on ere if you look:rolleyes:

The wiring is 7 wires.
The glow plug wire is the same and goes straight onto glow plug number 4 (nearest the bulkhead) without a timer relay. Just hold the ignition key for 5 to 10 seconds in the glow position like you do now. Or if it's a good 200Tdi then just turn it over and it will start with no glow plug.
Fuel solenoid wire. Goes to the fuel solenoid on the Injection pump to open up the fuel tap.
Oil pressure wire goes to the oil pressure switch, same place on the 200Tdi.
Water temperature wire goes to the water temp sender at the front on the 200Tdi.
Hardest bit is the 3 wires to the alternator. On the 2.5TD and NA it has a black plug that goes into the back of the alternator. On the back of the 200Tdi alternator it's 2 bolts. Cut the plug off the Landy wiring, clamp/solder on a large O electrical fixing to the 2 large brown wires and another smaller O fixing to the thinner black wire. Bolt them to the correct 2 bolt posts on the alternator. Photos can be found on here somewhere.

Easy really. :D

Good luck finding a Defender 200Tdi engine for a reasonable price though!

The wiring sounds pretty simple im leaning on the idea of doing it my self now. Andyb66 its nice to know you are local I havent got the engine yet but I think I will give it a go. I would have to get a Defender 200tdi as I have never welded before I know the exhaust will need modifying but i`ll just try and get the new engine in first. Will I be able to use the power steering pump setup that the Defender 200tdi uses I cant remember how it is fixed I got an old power steering pump fitted at the moment that I dont want to use with the new engine?

Won't a pump come with the engine.... or d'ye mean the steering box?

Ok that looks good, just leaves me with the exhaust then. Would that be a 200 tdi discovery exhaust conversion kit? or can I not just replace my original exhaust with a new 200 tdi exhaust?

Yup you'd need a conversion downpipe. The standard downpipe from the Disco will not fit as it's too close to the bulkhead in the defender. As its a Disco 200Tdi the defender downpipe etc will not fit either.
There are a couple of conversion downpipes available so it's easy to do if a tad expensive. But it's a whole lot cheaper than trying to find a Defender 200Tdi.

Cheers Buster, yup thats the alternator conversion needed.

Say I was to use a Defender 200tdi instead of a Disco 200tdi would the 200 tdi exhaust be a straight fit?
