Evening all, newbie question but searched through forum and couldn't find an answer.....

Is there a definitive list of the things to do when you buy your first Freelander, mines a Yreg ES 1.8 with 115,000 miles, it needs a lorra lorra love but I've started by giving it a good wash!

Myfreelander.com doesn't exist anymore and there was apparently a mine of info there.

What I'm looking for is - what to grease, what you cleanout/renew what recalls do i need to look for and how to spot them on my car etc.

all advice gratfully received!

The first, and most important thing to do, when you buy a 1.8 Gaylander, is to sell it again quick, before failure of the Head Gasket or VCU or IRD or rear diff or................

Anyway, now that part of the advice from the Senior Members is out of the way, well done in your new purchase!

you've probably chosen the right year (as long as it was registered before march 1st 2001) considering the new car tax rules that are coming in!
And a good level of trim (ES)!

AS for advice on what to do, i've got a TD4 so no point me telling you what to do with that, but i'm sure you'll get a few decent posts giving you excellent advice on what to do and look for over the next few days. :)

thanks gents for the ahem "predictable" response, the gaylander is now my wifes pride and joy, even if the sunroof doesn't close, aircon doesn't work and clutch is on its last legs - as long as it lasts 6months i'll be happy!

still looking forward to a list of things to grease tomorrow!

well i think that lot covered it quite well .... i'm impressed , you never got the pi££ taken out of or noffin  well done .... well done , i'm so proud of the forum .... well done ....

Thanks, today, if it moves, I'll grease it. If it doesn't move, I'll grease it some more! :)

interestingly, if this was one of the Audi forums then i'd have to use a particular expensive bespoke grease thats different for each componant, I'm guessing that as this is a landrover, what ever grease I find, will do!

Has an FAQ or Newbie guide been compiled or is there a recommendation on the best books (Haynes etc) that will help me keep her ticking over.

you will need:

1) This forum
2) Haynes manual so you can read it under the bonnet so you know what you are looking at
3) copy of rave cd. do a search on this forum and you'll find a link for a free download.

Unfortunately, before you can benefit from 1) you will need a) thick skin b) good sense of humour

Myfreelander.com doesn't exist anymore and there was apparently a mine of info there.

Just to let you know, myfreelander.com domain expired and a spammy advert site bought the domain name.

I am pleased to report that Jon Mapp who originally compiled all the freelander info did still have a large part of the site. He was very kind and gave me the files.
I managed to get myfreelander.co.uk - Freelander - Fix problems, repairs, diagrams, whats wrong, faults, upgrates - Land Rover and have uploaded Jon's content. I have a lot to do in navigation, sorting out missing links and images plus adding a bit of colour.
I will keep you informed when its finished but there is lots and lots of info still there.

sqoooooooz me - but most (if not all) of that is in the general Q's and A's bit - I know coz i put it there. - go have a look in there and sort by title .
