So, to ease into todays ‘general service’, I thought I’d replace the key fob batteries over a coffee.
Only had 1 screwdriver out and I’m buggered already!

looking around here, you are supposed to reprogram the fob using 5 quick presses of one or other of the buttons. Nope. Zip. Diddly squat (that’s a farm now, right?)

Luckily I only did one, so I can carry on for now, but anyone know of an alternative method to get the magic pixies talking to each other again?

(The replacement battery is fine - and I tried again with the old one, just in case. The fob was working 10 minutes ago!)

TIA

Stupid question, but battery right way up ?

Try pressing the little switches with the pcb out of the case, the switches can fail when touched.

No question is stupid! Yep - battery + side up.
Will try buttons out, but they seem to be ‘clicking’ positively

You can only re-synchronise a programmed fob by pressing the lock button 5 times. This is needed when the fob battery is replaced.

If the fob isn't programmed to the car, you'll need to have it programmed.

Sometimes the 'upheaval' of changing the battery detaches the bit the battery sits in from the PCB and it needs soldering back on.

Its usually pretty obvious - like you have 2 separate bits in your hand - but suppose 1 of the solders could have detached and not making good contact.

I got mine fixed at my local computer shop.

Used to love going to that shop to buy bits and pieces. Run by a lovely Chinese chap from Singapore and his Mrs, his handicapped son would be with them to. I'd often bump into him and his son on the river bank when out fishing and visits to the shop were lengthy talking about our fishing trips and looking at pics of fish he'd caught. Poor sod carked it in his 50's from the big C.

Very uncaring of the fella, cos I'm buggered if I know where I'm going to get my battery holders resoldered now

It’s programmed… I just changed the battery and need to get it to talk to the car again.
Should have left the bloody thing alone!

Now working
Don’t ask, I don’t know what I did different, other than remove the battery, drain the battery (read it somewhere), reinsert and try the ‘lock’ button 5 times.

… About 20 sodding times!

I've been getting the occasional beeps from mine as I unlock and get in. Letting me know the battery is getting low (presumably).

Last few days, I've got in, turned the key, and nothing

Each time though I've tried again and its turned over and started.

So I'm wondering if the fob's now not talking to car and its imobilised or summat... but haven't really taken notice of dash lights as its always started 2nd turn.

Then yesterday got in, wouldn't turn over, tried again, still wouldn't. Tried a few times and same. No immobiliser light, so fob's talking OK. Tried 2nd fob just in case, same result.

So I'm turning the ignition on and dash lights light as normal. Turn key to crank and nothing. Lights are not dimming and can sometimes hear a click - which I'm presuming is the starter solenoid.

I'm presuming therefore that the starter is fubar. However, I thought that when you turn to crank the dash lights go out - maybe I'm wrong - but the dash lights stay lit, including the glow plug light. So I'm wondering if its the ignition switch.

Such fun. The starter was replaced a few years ago with a new one - forget which make, but it was a well known brand. Its an L Series and I had no trouble getting a replacement locally before, hope its the same again if its the starter. If its the switch, I can probably take it off my 2001 parts car.

If you can hear the starter relaynornsolenoid click then it might be the low current line to the starter motor that needs cleaning. Or the starter solenoid contacts burnt.

Yesterday (Saturday) was the end of my working week. It was a really busy hectic week, and shortly before leaving I found a campervan with a TV antenna that needs replacing.

I was knackered, so decided to leave it to the guys working today. The van's being picked up at 10 and work starts at 8:30, so plenty of time to fit it, but its a fiddly job with wires are tucked behind shower/toilet cubicle and assorted panels.

I'm feeling a bit guilty now. So might pop in and do/assist it..... and let the mechanic have a look at my starter motor

That is if the car will start to get there

Never seen this before  From Rimmers...
