We often buy cars as write off’s, there are some bargains to be had but also some utter catastrophes. At this moment in time I’m not 100% where our D2 lands on the scale but we are giving it a hearty good go.
So anyways, 2004 D2 TD5 with 112k on with history up to 2017. It had damage to N/S quarter and never actually owned a Discovery I didn’t know any pit falls, safe to say I’m getting there though.
On the way home the O/S air bag popped, tad scary but lived to tell the tale. The immobiliser locker us out (but with Landyzones help ) we cracked the code.
The V5 came through and to our surprise she had only had 2 owners, from initial inspection all seemed ok and not brilliant but not terrible, had a new starter motor, new alternator suspension components looks OK and identified a few small holes in the O/S rear chassis.
Then just because the daily run around felt left out from all the attention the gearbox decided to give up the ghost so that temporary paused progress for a weekend.
Made a start on the body work, the old rear quarter pretty much fell off and with a little gentle persuasion got it straightened out as best as we could.
Got a second hand quarter, painted and transferred the old glass. Replacement bumper fitted and sensors all working. All going well.
Then came tackling the chassis rot, that’s where it got a little more interesting, well aware that small holes turn into big holes but it was a little more than I had anticipated.
Few pictures of where we are up to now, I’ll update when I get chance
P.S words of encouragement welcomed
In hindsight yes maybe actually investigating the chassis first should of been my first port of call but hindsight is a bloody lovely thing
