Hi All, now that we've finally done it and bought our first Discovery I thought I'd share my first impressions. We've just bought the wife a 2000 TD5, seven seats with 111k. We got this to replace her 2002 7 seater 1.7 Honda Stream with 39k on the clock (Don't even go there). She fancied a Disco so the rest is history. We've had it nearly a month now and put just under a 1000 miles on it so the first impressions are........

1 - It's a lot more fun than a Honda!
2 - It does make you smile when you drive it
3 - It's a lot better on fuel than expected (possibly better than the 1.7 Honda??????)
4 - It's cheaper to tax than a 1.7 Honda
5 - It's cheaper to service than a 1.7 honda
6 - They do all leak don't they! (although parking it face down on the drive cured this?)
7 - Our 3 & 6 year old boys now won't shut up about Land Rovers (and point out every one we see, and living in the New Forest there's lots!!!!)
8 - We've been told by the boys if we ever sell it they're leaving home
9 - I've even considered buying a caravan
10 - I want to get it dirty

Normal cars don't have this effect so was it a good move.........oh yes!!

Incidently it's a TD5 with a personal plate V8 LJE - not wanting to look a plonker if anyone's interested in the plate make me an offer!

Get rid of the EGR tomorrow.

In fact, a better idea would be to get rid of it today.

MPG goes up 10% on the spot, and it goes better.

Search LandyZone for TD5 EGR Removal. It's one of the single best upgrades it is possible to do.

Hi, I too recently bought a TD5 at a price I couldn't refuse! I couldn't agree more that 'normal' cars just don't have the same effect. Several years back I had a cracking 300 auto and was sorry to see it go. A couple of years later I bought another 300 (manual) as a cheapo workhorse which did have some probs but also was sold on for similar reasons the first one was sold for. I vowed I would have another one day and so recently bought the current TD5. Love it!

The pros are, how can I put this....another world! (smooth, power delivery)
The cons are, how can I put this...another world! (complexity, national grid electrics)

Enjoy your TD5. I can have twice as much enjoyment in my Landy doing half the speed as that in the BM 330 of a few years back.
