Hey guys,

I'm looking at selling my Hippo and getting a Disco 2. Looking at ES and Landmark models in the 5.5-6.5k price bracket. The nice ones start at about 6k.

Now I reckon I can get about 3k for the Hippo selling privately, maybe a little more. I don't commute so can survive a short gap between cars, the missus still has hers and we're both insured on it. I can cobble together an additional grand on top of what I make on the sale. So I'll probably have a deposit of 4 or 4.5k. Could I put all that on a deposit and get finance on the rest or does it not work like that? What sort of period would I be paying back over? I know this sound very vague but I'm just wondering if it would be better to wait a bit longer and pay it all cash, I don't know. I know I could get a GS for that money, but I've got my heart set on one like my old man had in 2004, it was stunning.

Anyone ot any ideas?

Will.

Just get a loan from the bank, or wherever you can get the best rate from, for the rest. So, if you raise 4.5k you need a loan for 2k then buy the car with cash.

The length of time you are paying it for really depends on your own financial circumstances and how much you need to borrow. Basically, the amount you can afford to pay each month against the amount you need sort of decides how long. Within reason :) 50p a month over 25 years is probably not an option :)

Or do what i do, withdraw it on a credit card as cash then balance transfer it interest free to a 2nd credit card.

My credit card company has sent me an interest free balance transfer every month this year there are plenty around.

Cheers guys :). Just seeing what my options are at present, I want to get one at least as posh as my 2004 SE Hippo ;).

FWIW I got a 2001 TD5 XS for 3k. Pretty posh if you ask me, even with a rough bit on N/S front wing and a small scar on the N/S rear with 152k on the clock. 1/2 leather trim seats etc. 18 inch alloys.

But yes, if you're after a pristine example, then budget for more than 3k, although like any vehicle, there might be one that's an absolute bargain!

Diff.

My old man had one just like that, he said it was much better than the 2003 ES he had after it, but I think just because it had tons of gremlines off the forecourt and he got the hump with it. I reckon I could sort one, every problem has been seen and fixed here I expect. Good to know you can get a nice one for much less though :)!
