Well after months of debating I have finally taken the plunge.
Sold my trusty 130k mile '96 300Tdi XS on eBay last week and after scouring the on-line ads managed to find myself a very tidy 2001 TD5 Adventurer in black (this'll be fun to keep clean!).
300Tdi to a TD5 - talk about chalk and cheese!

You've got a nice one there! Glad you're happy with it!

I've got exactly the same vehicle (an Adventurer) in 'kent green' although mine hasn't had the headlight upgrade/facelift. But i think I prefer the colour of yours! :D

I'm not too bothered about the headlight facelift as I knida like the weird american-style amber running lights in the indicators!!

I have taken off the (in my opinion) ugly A-Bar though. Glad to see yours hasn't got one!

Hope you have a lot of fun with it.

James

Thanks James, I am very happy with it.
I like the amber running lights too, but I like the look of the later lamps.
Mine also has a PSI Powerbox which makes a fair difference when I compare it to the other cars I test drove.
Mine is missing it's original wheels as the previous owner fitted 18" hurricanes and sold the originals. He took the hurricanes off before sale and fitted the standard 16" 5 spokes from an ES.
I'm also VERY happy that he had the air springs and compressor all replaced last year :)

Hi Mike,
I upgraded from a '94 200TDI to a 2002 series 2 GS in December and how I love everything about it. Mines a dark metallic grey (no pictures of it yet) and keeps very clean, know what you mean about Black though. But if you like it as much as I do you'll clean it every other day, I just can't stop looking at it, best car I have ever had and it looks gorgeous. No major problems. Takes a bit of getting used to after the 200TDI tractor. I'm not complaining about the tractor though I had it 11 years and put 150000 miles on the clock, without a single problem, never ever let me down once.
Enjoy your new toy Mike.

How does it compare? Chalk and cheese!
I loved the 300 Tdi, but this is in a different league. Its a far better ride on-road, handles better (it has ACE which is amazing) and it actually goes when you put your foot down. The TD5 engine is very quiet and smooth.
I wonder how economy will compare. Hopefully it will be about the same as you don't have to drive it as hard as the 300.
All round I'm very pleased with it. I just hope all those electric gizmos don't play me up!

Yes, chalk & cheese.
Mine has ace as well, like being on rails, very stable.
With regards to economy, mine is not as good as the 200tdi round town.
I have done an accurate check and it's doing 24mpg, which is what it states in the handbook, so mustn't grumble. Haven't done a long distance check yet. The car is a bit heavier than the 200 so I would expect it to use a bit more. The ride as you say is excellent, engine smooth powerful and quiet. Just out of interest and nothing to do with the car, I've been filling up at Sainsburys and BP filling stations just recently and noticed while I was at the back of the car with the engine running a sweet smell, I bent down at put my nose up the exhaust and that's where the smell was coming from, not your regular parrafin smelly sooty fumes, but a nice clean sweet smelling gas. Doesn't smoke at all and no soot. Wonder if anyone else has noticed this.
