Finally picked it up

I finally picked up my eBay bought disco1 V8 on Thursday evening after winning it just before going on holiday, and will be spending time looking around it this weekend.

It drives ok, although it seems like there might be a bit of slack in the drive/prop shafts somewhere so all the UJs will be checked. The engine seems nice and strong, pulling all the way through the rev range, though I'm going to do a good service on it.

Haven't had a good chance to look at the body/chassis yet but it doesn't look too bad. No rust on the rear door shuts over the arch, doors seem clean etc. but a thorough check will occur over the next week.

Right now for the problems:

Biggest of all LPG doesn't work, I knew this which is why it was so cheap, this will be top of the list of things to sort!!!!

Offside rear window doesn't work
Rear wipe & wash doesn't work
Cruise control doesn't work
Heater stays hot all the time, on both sides
Radio is pants - aftermarket Blaupunkt with a removable front so will be changed for something better
Central locking locks, but then drivers door lock reopens. It opens all doors fine.

I shall be arming myself with a Haynes manual and tackling all the small electrical jobs, but any helpful pointers would be appreciated.

Even with those faults I love it, always wanted a big lazy V8, though I should have bought one when I started driving and fuel was 40p/l

Good luck with it. I've always wanted a V8 but the fuel economy is what puts me off. Don't forget to keep us updated.

Dampers on the outside of the heater not moving, but both of them? assuming you have a 300 series have a look at the control cable/s.

I think the rear wash wipe will be electrical, but haven't had a real chance to dig into it yet.

I'd read about the vacuum hose for the cruise so I will look at that when I get chance.

I managed to get a copy of the service manual online, and found some stuff about the heater. Apparently if both are hot then it looks like it will be the coolant valve not closing, either through faulty microswitches, vacuum valve or coolant valve being knackered.

I was thinking the lock may be just an adjustment issue, so I'll have a look at that.

I've got one too they're great aren't they!
Terrible fuel consumption mind especially when playing in it.
Check the vac hose for the cruise control as mine had perished and wasn't working

For the central locking try removing the door card and lubricating every joint you can find in the mechanism. Need to do it on mine too but I'm too bone idle.

Right thought I'd post an update.....

Central locking sorted, removed door card, checked everything, worked fine with door card off so repleced door card and still worked

LPG had no power, so took a switched feed to the LPG ECU and it worked. However the car wouldn't start in petrol mode even with the LPG switch set in petrol only mode. Bought a toggle switch and only turn LPG on when car has started. Problem solved.

Rear wiper has been replaced but still not working, definitely got 12V and the relay is switching so more work required. Wash does work I got it wrong on my original post.

Not checked rear passenger window, heater or cruise control yet.

Had to replace water pump but that was an easy fix.

Now onto drivetrain, there seems to be a fair bit of play from transfer box to front axle. The rear prop has very little, if any, play. Any ideas? Is it possible to make any diff adjustments or is it a rebuild job?
